What Happens During a Massage Session
Your first appointment
You will need to answer some questions on a
new
client questionnaire before we can begin your massage.
This is necessary to ensure the massage session
will be safe for you, the questions form will provide additional useful background information for a more effective
massage treatment.
Before your Massage.
Before the
massage we discuss your preferences for the day’s session. I may also do
some hands-on evaluation of your posture and muscle condition. I
then leave the room so that you can undress in privacy and get on
the padded table. You relax under a sheet and blanket, laying down
either on your back or prostrate with your face in a cradle. I will
Knock before entering the room to make sure you are ready.
During your Massage.
Some clients
receive massage fully clothed, while others leave on their
undergarments. The decision regarding the level of dress is yours, based
on your level of comfort. To respect personal privacy and provide
adequate warmth, you are covered at all times except for the area of
your body being worked on. Massage may include: head, neck, arms,
upper/lower back, abdomen, legs and feet. Professional massage should be
a safe and healing experience. Communicate to the practitioner
immediately if you experience any pain, discomfort or concerns during
the massage
After your Massage.
At the end of the
massage you tend to feel very relaxed. You might even have fallen
asleep. Take a few minutes to become fully alert before getting back in
your car. Also make sure to drink plenty of liquids the day of and next
day after massage. This will allow toxins released from muscle tissue to
flush out of your body, extending the benefits of the massage.
Massage can help reduce tension, stress, assist
the immune system, improve alertness and mental response. Massage is a
wonderful way to help your body heal itself and is a very pleasant form
of therapy.

Stone
massage
Heated stones have been used by
Egyptians,
Native Americans and in
Lomilomi massage.
Smooth hot or cold stones, usually basalt or marble, are
used to massage the body. When heated stones are used
muscles relax allowing the massage therapist to work
deeper into the muscle.
Energy medicine is
sometimes incorporated into
stone massage. Stones
are heated in hot water and are placed under the back,
along both sides of the spine, and on top of the torso
and are used to heat the chakra or meridians centres.
Heated stones coated in oil are then used directly in
the hands of the therapist delivering various massaging
strokes.
